Active Learning This summer term, our students embraced a range of exciting indoor and outdoor activities, making the most of the warmer weather. Throughout each visit, they represented Heath School brilliantly, demonstrating our character virtues by encouraging one another, showing determination when faced with challenges and stepping outside of their comfort zones.
Go Ape - A highlight of the term was our visit to Go Ape, where students tackled high ropes, zip lines and obstacle courses. Many students overcame their fears by pushing themselves to complete the course, while others showed kindness and encouragement by supporting their peers from the ground.
Lee Valley Mountain Biking - Students developed new cycling skills while navigating woodland trails. They demonstrated resilience when faced with difficult terrain and showed excellent teamwork by encouraging one another to keep going.
Pirate Castle and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park - Students took to the water during canoeing sessions at these two venues . For many, this was their first experience of canoeing and they quickly learned the importance of communication and teamwork while paddling together. It was fantastic to see students growing in confidence on the water and supporting one another throughout the experiences.
Orbit Slide at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park - Students challenged themselves by taking on the world's longest tunnel slide. For some, overcoming their nerves before taking the plunge was a real achievement; demonstrating courage and resilience while enjoying this experience together.
Historic and creative experiences - We visited theTower of London where students learned about its fascinating history, including its role as a royal palace, fortress and prison and we enjoyed painting pottery at the Social Pottery in Kentish Town.
Paddleball and baseball - Students have been active enjoying both these sports, where they learned new techniques and worked on coordination, communication and teamwork. It was encouraging to see everyone supporting one another and celebrating each other's progress as they developed their skills.
This half term we have introduced Active Learning certificates. Students have to demonstrate a number of key skills and qualities in order to achieve the certificate to show the progress they are making from their participation in Active Learning. A number of students are on track to achieve their resilience certificates.
