Posted on: 11th Jul 2026
In September last year T’Leyah embarked upon the daunting task of taking GCSE art in one year! The theme for her coursework unit was: ‘Fantastic & Strange’. For her artist research, T’Leyah was inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Ernst Haeckel and Marcelo Monreal.
She took a photoshoot in the local area to help her generate more ideas and edited her best images to make them more striking. She then experimented with creating collages with her photos, leading to her final composition; a monoprint of her Beyonce collage over her flower photo edits.
For her exam module, the starting point was: ‘Found’. T’Leyah began by looking at Joseph Cornell’s shadow boxes of found objects, she then explored Jan Groover’s photos of household objects and took her own photoshoot in Groover’s softly atmospheric style. Once she started exploring Erik Speers textile art through the medium of clay, it was clear T’Leyah had discovered her instinctive artform – she is incredibly skilled at modelling with clay! Her final sculpture is truly magnificent and demonstrates a huge amount of creative imagination and technical skill. We wish her all the best with her exam results this summer and onwards on her life journey.
