At Heath School we offer an ambitious mathematics curriculum that ignites our students‘ curiosity and prepares them for everyday life and future employment.

We develop and build students’ mathematical skills for everyday use; skills such as reasoning, problem-solving and critical thinking. The curriculum has been carefully designed to continuously interleave content throughout each year, as well as build upon relevant knowledge from KS2 and KS3.

We offer teaching that supports and challenges all students appropriately, whilst also promoting a love for mathematics.

Students gain mathematical depth and understanding of number, algebra, geometry and measures, ratio, proportion and rates of changes, probability, and statistics.

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3, all students are assessed on entry as part of  their induction with the SEN Team. This allows the school to identify an appropriate pathway for each student and teach a bespoke curriculum that is tailored to students’ needs and starting points. Each student begins lessons at an appropriate level in line with core National Curriculum and Functional Skills standards, working towards accrediting successfully in mathematics in KS4. All students have the opportunity to accredit at their level during year 9 when they are ready to do so.

Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4, we baseline all students on entry if they join the school in KS4, so they are able to engage with the whole class learning of the students already with us. Students in Year 9 and Year 10 currently sit Functional Skills examinations, whilst Year 11 sit both Functional Skills and IGCSE examinations in Autumn and Summer. Early examinations in Autumn support and motivate students to achieve their predicted grade or higher in their summer examination.
